Need expert advice on ridgid tapping a No.10-24 thread on stainless steel 316L my drill depth will be .5 deep my full thread depth needs to be .4 Im holding the tap on a ER16 collet holder but should be getting my ER16 collet holder with the square bottom tomorrow so the tap doesnt spin. We pecked it 4 times at equal increments our rpm was 180 and broke 2 taps in 3 holes...? Tap is a flat bottom tap for blind holes. Machine im using is a Mazak 510c-2 with the nexus matrix control which based on my serial number the machine is equiped with ridgid tapping capabilities. Anyone whos been able to tap successfully tap with this thread please chime in. Im using OSG HSS coated taps at 25 bucks a pop and 1000 holes to tap I need all the advice I can get.
