    Hoss,

If you had to choose a new motor for the G0704 today what would you put on it?

This seems like a moot question without constraints. Where do you need the power/torque band to lie? What's electrical options do you have available? What's your price range? Ultimately your own needs will dictate what motor you choose to run. If the sky is the limit, snag a VFD and a bigass motor. Keeping it cheap, get a treadmill motor or whatever you can find around. Hell, go Servo drive.

i would prefer something that would allow for a power draw bar option (later down the road)

So, anything except direct drive. And even so, that's doable with some exceptional finangling

was thinking of ordering one of those 1100W bldc motors, looks small enough to maybe work

There are a number of options here, if money wasn't a deterrent I'd get a big servo.

I already purchased a motor. Since I had a VFD laying around I grabbed a Leeson 3 phase motor. D80 frame metric motor, 1.5 HP, 3475 RPM.

Since I am using a head spacer I think the motor will fit without much problems.

I posted the wrong motor. This is the correct one. https://www.zoro.com/leeson-metric-m...2/?q=192067.30

Hi I was wondering how your motor setup is working. Is the Leeson motor giving you the RPM and power for milling that you were looking for?

I picked up the Leeson 3 phase motor and got it hooked up to a HuanYang VFD. The VFD was not hard to hook up and does a nice job of controlling the motor. However, I have not yet finished hooking it up to the mill.

I got a belt drive from Benchtop Precision made for this motor. There are some really nice features with this drive, like the ability to keep the quill working. I got one of the first mounting plates so there are a few things that need attention but I am looking forward to having this setup on my machine.

I have been working on fitting the Leeson motor to the Belt drive.

The motor mount is being redesigned specifically for this motor. Leeson changed the motor without updating the CAD files to match. There are a few Clearance issues that Scott (Benchtop Precision ) is aware of and is fixing. We are emailing and getting things worked out so thing fit perfectly. As it sits now the belt drive can be made to fit but Scott want it to be plug and play. I will post some pictures later. But the main issues are that the belt tension slot is too close to the motor endbell, so removing the bolts is difficult. Nothing insurmountable.
