Heres a pic of a simple steam wobbler I made from a casting kit a while back.

Here's a Vertical 'Upside Down' Engine that I made a couple of years back. No Castings were hurt in the production of this model - everything was made from solid material - no Castings, no CNC, no Mill - just a Lathe, a Drill Press and a lot of hand & File work. I was quite pleased how it turned out, as it was my first Steam Engine.

    Well I don't understand it.
I hit the browse, and selected a picture.
Waited while it downloaded, and when it was complete, I hit submit.
Never showede up. I did an "edit" and repeated, and it's a no show.
    Sorry

when you upload your picture be sure to read the addition text in the upload section.

This was the mistake I made. It will usually tell you why it didn't upload.

if that dosn't help I am out of suggestions
    thanks

Mine is packed away but it is an original Creators steam engine that powered the popcorn wagon. At one time someone offered me a $1000 for it but I said no because I had no idea what it is really worth.
If it's not nailed down, it's mine.

    100% CNC Machined - Enjoy

Attached, please find images of a P.M. Research re-make, which is 100% CNC machined. With the exception of fasteners, of course.

Nicely designed oscillating engine deanrach. Think it's only do-able on CNC that one!

One question, how do you get the seal between the cylinder and port faces? Usually there's a spring to keep them pressed against each other ..

    Nick,

I had my students reproduce (with permission) the kit version as offered by P.M. Research - see the attached link.

    http://www.pmresearchinc.com/store/c...2&cat=4&page=1

If you look at post #1, you'll see it's the same steam engine. The only difference being that my students machined every part from solid stock, no castings and 100% CNC machined.

As for the spring, we used a spring washer - I can get you the part number we used through McMaster Carr.

Thanks for that. It looks much better machined from the solid than from those castings!

Good idea using a spring washer. I have often thought of doing that as there is no need for a long spring, you don't need to vary the spring pressure, just keep it enough to make a good seal.

Here are some pictures of an Oscillating steam engine or wobbler I made when I was 15 for my GCSE Technology project.

The engine was all made from stock and was my own design. I was very proud at the time, but when I look back on it now, the finish on some of the components wasn't great.

Having said that, it ran brilliantly, partly due to the relatively large bore and stroke and heavy steel flywheel I think. You could just turn it over on lung power.

I sold the engine on ebay, partly because I thought it may fetch more than 20 pounds! But mainly because it was just sat in a box at home and it someone else could give it a better home! I can easily make a better one now if I want.

One of the magazines, Popular Science, Mechanix Illustrated etc. had plans for a live steam model of the USS Savanna back in the '60's. Please let me know if you find a copy!
