    Copper Lathe Job

I'm working on a Ø6in. x 9in. Length Copper C110 job and I need to know the maximum safe RPM. I have a Hardinge H51 Lathe with a 10" 3 jaw chuck and I'm using hard serrated jaws. Thanks!

    Re: Copper Lathe Job

Ultimately you need to know the clamping force on your chuck, then the cutting forces that you are going to be applying to the workpiece. C110 can range in hardness from B50-B95 or so so your surface speed will be affected too. At 9" Diameter you start surpassing your SFM max in Carbide around 600RPM, so any faster and you're not doing yourself any favors.
