    4'x4' CNC plasma DIY project

Hi everyone, i'm new in this world of CNC machines. I'm starting a new project that includes make a CNC plasma table, in this case I select a 4'x4' machine and I already have a few parts that enlist below:

RM1605 1385 mm end machined ballscrews
    RM1605 single nut
    FF12/FK12 sets
    SBR20 1400 mm linear rail
    SBR20UU block bearing
    Nema 23 stepper motor
    162 mm linear shaft
    Steppet motor driver micro controller
    50W power supply
    CNC stepper couplers
16 mm SCUU linear ball bearings

I hope you can help me because I have a few questions about limitswitch, how use the software, how install the THC or what plasma cutter use, however, I will be updating the progress.

    Thanks for watching.

For now i'm modeling the plasma table looking for any issues and find some distances wrong, nothing serious.

I'm no expert but it looks good so far,

You should consider what type of smoke and dust control system you are going with and integrate it in the early design stages. A water tray is cheaper but you might be looking at about 500lbs of weight added to your table, something to consider when sizing your members.

Also, you can use 3:1 or 5:1 gearboxes with your step motors, looks like you show this in your model, you can find these used on ebay. Direct drive may or may not work best i guess it depend on your application.

Neuron THC looks very good, I plan on getting one for my table when its up and running. Neuron CNC

Hypertherm plasma cutter all the way! PM45 is CNC ready too

I'll put on the water tray later, firs I want to learn to use. To install the gearboxes I need to know how the stepper motor works and then put it on or not, this is my first plasma table so I have no experience

Hi everyone, I need some help.

Recently I bought a plasma cutter and I need to know how to connect an Miller 625 Spectrum to the CNC plasma table system, is there someone who knows how it works?

Finally an update, for now, I'm testing the CNC plasma table without the plasma cutter connected, I need to install the torch holder and grid slats to cut some pieces. Also I'm learning how to make better Gcodes in Inkscape. I think that the CNC is slow but it's better than nothing.
If someone has any recommendation to test it or improve it is welcome.

    Hector,

I agree that it looks a little slow. While it would probably work, I'd expect rounded corners (from the heat) and probably an additional amount of doss in the cut. Depending on the thickness of your material anyway.

One question. Only because it wouldn't cost too much more, had you though of using gears to add drive speed (at a loss of torque)? There would be additional math involved, but once it was all sorted out, I think you would have more versatility due to the increased speed.

For my first project, I cheated. I purchased a R7 (Router) kit. I'll learn on this and hope to (in the future) use this to build my plasma table.

This is my very first CNC, I installed the system with screws because it was my first option, I had never seen a machine in person, only in videos. The X axis has two stepper motors connected in parallel and I think that is the reason why I can't increase the speed on Mach3 (up to 40 in/min doesn't work, only X axis), may be if I install another stepper driver, one per motor in X axis, it can be faster.

In the future may be build another with gears, however, for now I will use it just like that to recover some money (4 months of been working on it)

    Hector
