    1981 Kitamura Mycenter 2 w/Fanuc 6M-B Spindle Problem

    Here's the scoop:

I began drip feeding a program (I've run 30 times prior) to my 1981 Kitamura Mycenter 2 w/Fanuc 6M-B from a plugged in IBM Thinkpad. As the program homed and began to make it's first light cut in aluminum the machine surprisingly shutdown and went into the "NOT READY" state. Once this happend I immediately looked over to my laptop and saw that the Windows Star Field screen saver had turned on (I had forgotten to disable it!), but not moving as normal; it was in a static state.

So, I shut everything down, disconnected the computer from the Kitamura and repowered again. When I got to the pendant I saw that the spindle rpm meter had jumped to roughly 900 rpm without the spindle actually being on! Everything else works fine, but now I'm unable to command the spindle to rotate and take the tool out when Z is homed because I believe the machine still thinks the spindle is active.

I have checked the brushes on the spindle motor (they look fine), I can hand turn the spindle without any trouble and the belt drive is in good shape.

I've attempted to command the spindle into different rpms, but it will not turn at all and the rpm meter still says it's moving at roughly 900 rpm.

Could the execution of the screen saver cause an electrical problem on the 6M-B board? What would send a signal at power up telling the rpm meter that the spindle is rotating at 900 rpm? Can it be reset?

Any thoughts are encouraged and appreciated!!!

    TFGC,
Any luck fixing this problem yet? The oldest control I have is a 3M on a 1984 Kitamura Mycenter-1. Some problems can be resolved by pressing the P key and the CANCEL key together while turning the control on at the pendant. Hold the keys down until the control comes up.
Also inside the spindle housing (access plate on the side) is an electronics box with a couple of connectors attached. If this gets wet from coolant or oil it will have a bad connection and will affect the spindle. The connections need to be clean and dry.
Like I say, this applies to a 3M control and My-1 so don't know if will help your situation.
    Good Luck

Monday morning, I will check in my book for my Mazak V7.5 wih Fanuc 6M control. I Had a similar problem ad it was a parameter issue. I have been told that it was caused by a power glitch (whatever that is).

Dear, u can check the command voltage at spindle drive connector. Pl tell which spindle drive is used in your m/c. Also check the zero speed & speed achived signal at dignosis.
    good luck.

The parameters that were disturbed from my power glitch, were 361 ad 362.

Setting of main spindle MAX speed when Gears 1 , 2 are selected

    _________Bit position 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 0
    PARAM 361 (PGMAX1) 0 0 0 0 1 1 3 2 (Max RPM for Low Gear)
    PARAM 362 (PGMAX2) 0 0 0 0 4 5 0 0 (Max RPM for High Gear)

At another time the spindle had stop working. I then detected a blown fuse thru the alarm lamps on the PCB.

Sorry all for the delay. It ended up being a small wire (1 of 5) that came loose from it's solder point on a pcb located in the brushless tachogenerator. I thought it was a feedback error and that apperas to be what it was. Once I resoldered the wire everything was back to normal. Thanks for the ideas!
