    Z-axis Inhibit (dry run?)

So still learning my way around

Is there a way to disable or limit the physical z-axis?

I generally just set my workpiece z-axis zero 2" above the piece for dry cutting.

Which is what I'd have to end up doing

Easier to just press a button than having to load a dummy tool in the spindle

Definitely a feature I'd miss. I would usually set it just above the surface .010" to see where / how engraving tools would trace contours or when a contour would clean up etc. without having to worry about tool lengths or anything since the tool offsets would still load

What is the control; type? Fanuc allows this.

I'm using pathpilot (using is maybe overstating it a little, day 2)

The GE fanuc controls (16/18MC etc) and some modeled off them you could inhibit any axis although the Z is the only one I cared about, lathe or mill

On the router at work we also used it by setting a value just off the work table (not the spoilboard) so that if anything went wrong (usually a XZ or YZ arc miscalculation) it wold at least prevent the cutter from going into the actual bed.

Not a biggie but it was handy on occasion
