Driver Timing Settings with IM483 & PS PowermaxII Motors

    Hi guys,

I built a machine with parts from an old Vision 1624 engraver (steppers, leadscrews, bearings, rails, drives). The Pacific Scientific Powermax II steppers are driven by IM483 drives and a chineese 5 Axis Breakout Board. I am only getting twitching erratic movement from any axis when testing during setup (haven't progressed beyond). I think it may be a timing setup issue and have read some threads on these drivers.I found this thread about Logic Input Timing from the IM483 datasheet and adjusted Driver Timing Settings starting at those values. No progress.

The stepper power supply I am testing with is a 30VDC 0.83A from an old printer. Would the lack of amps (2.3A per motor) cause this issue? I have the parts just laid out trying to troubleshoot before putting them into an enclosure. Or could this be an interference issue with the short, unshielded leads I am using?

    Thanks for any insight!

[edit] I shortened, twisted & shielded the dir & pulse wires to rule out interference. Same result.

Stepper drive timings for many drives are on the LinuxCNC wiki.

LinuxCNC Documentation Wiki: Stepper Drive Timing

You are a little short on power it looks like but that should only limit you acceleration. What numbers did you use and what units? Did you use the Stepconf Wizard to set up your configuration?

Much more help at LinuxCNC forum.
