Hi All,
I have an Emco super 11 lathe with milling head, and I would like to fabricate a power feed for the z axis of the mill head. I'm not intersted in making the machine CNC, I would just like to have a power feed to bring the mill head up, and down.
I have been looking at dual shaft motors to mount directly to the lead screw, and then put the adjustment wheel on top of the motor for fine adjustment.
Some questions maybe someone here can help with are:

Would I use stepper, or servo motors, what size, voltage, torque, etc?

How best to connect the motor to the lead screw?

How would I control the motor, and power it? Forward, reverse, fast, slow, without the need for a computor, and software?

I have been searching around the net, and have some basic ideas, and thoughts, and any input from the members here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks! tom62
