    NEMA23 Cover Instalation

I've ordered 3 NEMA 23 covers afew days ago.

I've read the instructions several times.

But there is a step in there that says to remove each screw individualy from the motor and shorten it.

    This has me concerned.

It just says to tighten and replace the screw after its shortened.

    How much torque?

It's a LONG screw compared to its diameter, could I snap it?

What if the screws wind up with different torques? will it ruin my motor?

There is 2.5mm of thread depth available, would I be better off shortening the cover screws?

Am I just being a bit neurotic about the whole thing?

    Help

I was looking for some insight from someone who has taken screws out of a stepper motor.

DY states pretty clearly how they would proceed.

I guess I might be a little gun shy about removing screws from a stepper motor, although it may be apples and oranges, I've had a few bad experiences trying to repair induction motors.

Any how, Thank you for your interest and reply to my post.

The only thing I can think to suggest is that if the screws DO strip out (either the motor screws or the cover screws) then you could just remove both and find a length of threaded rod of a diameter less than the screws and run it all the way from one end to the other. Then add locking nuts on either end. I've done that to mount a motor when I didn't have easy access to the motor side of the mounting plate, but the back of the motor was far enough out that I could get to it.
