    Digitizing probe input.

I am considering purchasing a digitizing probe and have a question. I already have a auto zero locating puck (input probe) and am wondering if I can reconfigure one of the other input pins on Mzch 3 for the new probe.

Why do you want to use another input?

What is stopping you wiring both up to the same input?

Presume the auto zero probe runs via macro, and the digitising probe will run by different macro, provided they are both triggered by the same state change (active high or low), then you should be able to use the same input.

If you really want to use a different input then you can do that too... however you will now be reliant upon a brain or code within the macro to see the change of state, and then trigger a probe input... which will be monitored at 10hz.... not the best way of doing it in my option

There are other ways to do it too.... if you have a lot of spare outputs (via a motion controller), you could use a relay to change the probe source via a normally open and normally closed relay and use the same input pin

Many ways to achieve the same thing

Thanks Rob, I wasn't aware that that could be done. I will give it a try.

Probes are typically Normally Open, and touch plates are usually Normally Closed, so you can't wire them to the same input.

you can have as many different type of probes as you wont, connected to any input, I have 1 tool height probe on one input (NC) and a probe on another (NO), and a second tool height probe on another input (NC). all work fine

How are you making them work if they are not assigned to the Probe Input?

they are I just change numbers and state I should of added that bit but they are on different pins and plugs. fixed tool height, movable tool height and probe. it's a work around till I have 3 probes in M4 ESS plug.

    Re: Digitizing probe input.

    All,
I really appreciate the input from you. i am still a bit confused. My intent in buying the machine is to build archtop guitars. I have DXF plans for the one I want to make but am having problems in Vcarve setting up the vectors and thought perhaps I might use a digitizing probe to create the necessary gcode to carve the tops and backs on my machine (KL6040). I have designed some solidbody guitars and am familiar enough with Vcarve but creating the vectors for the various curves has me stumped. lol. I thought the digitizing probe might be the easy way out.

.... yes you can.... invert the signal.... use a transistor.... or optoisolator (I have more optoisolators than transistors to hand)

Never say can't.... just ask how
