Howdy everybody! Hopefully one of you can help me, cause I feel like I've been bashing my head against a brick wall for the past day with zero results.
I have a slotting machine controlled by a Fanuc 0i-M from July of 2001, which I've been trying to connect to a PC to avoid manually typing in my gcode. To that end, I assembled a desktop with Windows XP SP3 and a serial port, constructed a DB25/DB9 cable according to the ConnectCNC settings guide for a Fanuc 0i-M (for those who like to see URLs: Fanuc 0i T and M G-code file transfer or DNC), downloaded the demo version of ConnectCNC, changed the settings in the controller to match those shown in settings guide, and proceeded to upload a test program, which ran exactly as expected.
I then tried to punch it back out, and nothing happened on the PC end. I unchecked the FIFO buffer in the serial port's settings, but still nothing. PortMon shows zero activity from the Fanuc when it's supposedly outputting, and neither do RealTerm or Putty. I checked the continuity of the cable's pins, in case something was disconnected, but everything is still as the settings guide suggests. I was unable to successfully check continuity of the cable running into the controller from the DB25 port, but I assume that all of the cabling should be intact given that the Xon/Xoff protocol requires both the transmit and receive lines to be operational to upload programs.
Basically, I have no idea why this isn't working, and if anyone has any ideas I will gladly try them.
