    RapidTurn and Fusion 360

    Hi Guys-

Has anyone had luck with Fusion 360 and the Rapid Turn (using the post for the slant lathe)? I've been having an issue where the tool path wants to start below the part and cut up in X going up. I've tried flipping the tool orientation in Fusion but no luck. Thanks for any help!

    Re: RapidTurn and Fusion 360

I think I understand what is going on.

On the rapid turn, the X=0 position is centerline of your workpiece, and than the X axis is positive as your tool goes above that. You should never see your RT g-code giving you a negative x value.

e.g. If you have a 2" diameter workpiece, when turning the surface of the workpiece, X should start at +1 when just touching the surface, then make a pass at +.95 (to make a 0.10" cut).

Looking at your g-code, all of the X values are negative, which tells me you need to go back to Fusion360 and see how you defined your coordinate system. You have your X axis flipped (it appears your X=0 is in the centerpiece, since your parting tool movement starts at -1.8 and moves to +0.063" to part).

On the SPL15 lathe, the QCTP is set on the -X side of the workpiece, so when you define your tool as being in the QCTP, you want negative value. But if you had gang tools or turret mounted tools, it should use the same +X coordinates as the Rapid Turn.

AHHH that makes perfect sense. I don't know how I missed that. I'll give that a test and report back. Thanks!!!
