    Post Partner 4 Centurion 4 E Stop

    Hi guys,

Haven't been here for quite a while. Guess everything has been rolling along pretty well with no time for anything but production. That changed about a week ago.
I have a 1988 Partner 4 with Centurion 4 controller. Picked it up for a very reasonable price with a bunch of extras - and it was about a mile away.
It has been running great for a couple of years with some occasional programming "quirks".

Out of the blue it started E stopping randomly. Not too much time after being powered up, but maybe 5 minutes after power. Just long enough to get homed
and dialed into a fixture. I can let it set unattended under power for quite a while and the second I hit jog, or any control movement it shuts down.
Normally it will power the drives up after sitting for a while and then do the same thing again.

It will grid, jog any direction, hand wheel, spindle runs fine, run program in the controller, etc. until it shuts down with 04 error code.

I know it's an old machine, but been good. I hand code everything because of the limited memory and have some manuals, but no troubleshooting info.

Any advice very much appreciated, and does anyone know if there is any kind of "fault" diagram for the led relay lights in the cabinet?

Here are some information sheets that you might be able to use.

The 04 error is an Excess Error fault. The control thinks an axis is out of position and so it errors out and e-stops.
There are several possible reasons for excess errors, encoders getting tired, cabling problems, electrical 'noise', maybe the control itself is getting tired.

Good luck tracking down the problem.

Check your plus and minus 15V, my machine had a bad -15V voltage regulator and I chased that issue for months. A small $4 part off ebay fixed it.
