Chinese CNC milling 3040 4 axis

I have bought a chinese CNC 3040 with 200W spindle, New CNC Router ENGRAVER Milling Machine Engraving Drilling 4 Axis 3040 Desktop | eBay
now everywhere I read people have upgraded it with 800W spindle or 1500W spindle. And everyone says more power is better.
I have just checked ebay and this 1500W waater cooled spindle. 1 5KW Water Cooled Spindle Motor 1 5KW VFD Frequency de Bearing Mill Grind | eBay
First what I am concerned my sipndle have 45mm diameter this one as I see it is 65mm so it won't fit.
And second it is worth to put on this cnc milling another 250$?
I have already bought USB controller because original one is with parallel port so I will first change this and put on USB controller, next thing is now this spindle.

    I appreciate any thoughts

No, I´m planning to upgrade brushless someday, but really see no point of adding more power than machine can handle. 3040 is not all mighty CNC, it´s just humble little engraver which gets the job done eventually

Hi.......at 200 watts you are only really scratching the surface........an 800 watt spindle will no doubt allow you to really cut material even on the 3040 which is not a bad machine if you take it easy.

To fit the 800 watt spindle you would need to get another Z axis mount for the 200 watt spindle as a spare part and cut the spindle mounting off.....or cut up the existing one.....no going back then.....and make another mounting for the 800 watt spindle and bolt it onto the Z axis face......a guy on UTUBE has done that.....I'm sure someone would love to make one for you at a reasonable price........there might be a complete change over kit out there for a retrofit.

So even better is to upgrade to 1500W watter cooled spindle? Or that is too much for 3040 and 800W is enough?

Question is just will Z motor handle the weight of new spindle??

Hi....as with a column mill where the weight of the head is counteracted with a gas strut, so too could the Z axis slide with a heavier motor.......or just fit a stronger stepper motor.....eventually the heavier motor will strain the frame and make the entire machine useless.

Re: Chinese CNC milling 3040 4 axis

I have done many mods to my CNC3040 and have fitted a water cooled 1k5 Spindle, the machine is so much better now and I use it mainly to cut out alloy enclosures for guitar pedals. The new spindle setup with all standard electronics and steppers has done over 100 hours of alloy cutting now with no problems.
I have recently built a new controller setup and have some new more powerful stepper to go on as well.

I have detailed how I fitted the 65mm 1k5 spindle along with a couple of pictures of the fitted spindle in this thread.

Thank you for infos, link to stepper not working also to 65mm 1,5k spindle if you can find it in ebay maybe and post link?
I will check your thread, this is exactly what I planned to do, but mostly I will use it for cutting plastic and aluminum and nothing else.
