a bit off topic, but you don't really need helical interpolation to mill an npt thread. just cut the thread into 4 90 degree arcs and adjust the radius for the taper.
    like this
    G01Z0F30.
    G01G41X-.301D28F5.
    G03X0Y-.3014R.3014Z.0139F10.
    G03X.3017Y0R.3017Z.0278
    G03X0Y.302R.302Z.0416
    G03X-.3024Y0R.3024Z.0555
    G01G40X0F15.

I am a bit confused. I understand that G02/03 with a Z word is helical interpolation, as written in the 0i MB manual. So, you are using helical interpolation only. Or, is there a separate G code for helical interpolation? Incidently, your method will change the radius in steps, at every quarter circle. So, the helix will not be smooth. Possibly, the helical interpolation people are talking about, changes the radius smoothly. But, it does not seem to be available on 0i series controls. Pl clarify.

    Hi!

I would need a parameter to turn on helical interpolation on Matsuura MAM-600HG machine with Yasnac i80M controller which I think is based on Fanuc controller, just not sure which one. Any help on this would be appreciated!

    Thanks!

Somebody might let you know, though it is illegal. (I do not have)

Incidently, when one looks at some of one's old post, it appears so foolish!
But, this is the way one learns. Never hesitate in asking. I still ask too many questions.

I just tried that program tonight on my 18iMA. It works.

I don't remember if I have the Macro A or B. But I tried this in manual guide too.

What would make the interpolation smoother?

That's what I understood about G02 & G03 but I noticed that there was also a G40 and G41 there too. Not that I know much about helical moves.. except for more trichoidal moves. Sinha, I didn't see any other G code for helical.. at least that would work for a threading operation.. not that I ever milled or turned NPT threads.

This program had X near .301/.302 with the same R values.. while Z changed with the feedrate which seemed to go a bit faster from F5 to F15. Theres a sneaky D word in there too.

Thanks for the 16M paramater, Al. I put that one in the param list for my 16M when it gets finished..

helical interpolation on seiki seicos 10 control

Please help! I need the parameter to turn on helical interpolation on seiki seicos 10 control. We have a Hitachi Seiki vm-50 and it lost information when we changed a battery. I thought we backed everything up correctly, but now it wont do a helix.

stupid question how do you change the parameter?

I can change other parameters ie I tried changing 0038 it and it worked but 0910 wont change. I get the alarm that it needs to be powered off, but it never accepts the parameter change and it stays the way it was.

I played around some more and found I could change some 900 parameters and not others.

I found the 3 axis control at once, and thought that might allow for helical interpolation but I still cant set 910#3.

possibly I can't set it as 0m-a mate controls can't do helical interpolation?

do I need to wipe the parameters first via reset+del on startup before reloading?

I don't think I'm brave enough to do that.

everything that I have read indicates 900 series parameters must be first input by hand.

Just the RS232 parameters in order to load by serial port.

that if for a system restore and indicates you should wipe the parameters and memory.
Step 2: Initialized/clear memory by press and holding "RESET" & "DELETE" keys simultaneously while powering ON the control.

also in step 4 it says to input the 900's manually.

the bit about "reading CNC parameters (PC->CNC) looks like you don't need to clear the parameters first.
I have a txt file of my parameters that looks like below. it has line breaks at the 700 to 900 parameter jump and between the 900 and 1000 parameters. and another between the 8000's and 9000's. can I just read this in over my current parameters?

I didn't say blindly follow those instructions.
The procedure says 'If control is generating System Errors.....'

Your control is not generating errors so you skip that part.

I said (or implied) READ IT then you will know more about what to do. The answer (to change just one parameter) is in the text but you must read the procedure to know the method. Then you skip the 'wipe' part and just enter the parameter(s) manually. Basically enable PWE and follow step 4.

If that doesn't work backup your parameters and follow the restore procedure, enter your options etc.
When outputting parameters press EOB and OUTPUT START together to send the 900 (option) parameters so you have a backup of them. This does not work when inputting parameters however. 900's have to be restored by manual entry.

I've attached another procedure, this one is basically the same thing but in a pdf and a more official type of doc provided by GEFanuc

a warning to any other newbies out there.

I tried loading parameters in over the old ones. it lost the Zero return position. it hasn't happened every time I have tried, just the first.

make sure you know how to re-zero you axis before you try silly stuff!

    Re: helical interpolation parameter

If I'm not mistaking the 31i-B will require purchasing the option as it is done through a file updated by Fanuc. And Fanuc has been touchy on options lately and may require you to go through the OEM or distributer.
