It is intermittent alarm 235 SPINDLE Z FAULT on VF-5/50. Usually during program run no problem, but when run spindle in MDI or MAnual mode CW, and then another direction, even by hand, appears Alarm 235. I have check encoder for grounding, mounting on the shuft, connectors on both sides, all is OK. But inside encoder was oil from transmission(( Some time appears Alarms116 (SPINDLE ORIENTATION FAULT), 237 (SPINDLE FOLLOWING ERROR). It seems encoder has to be change? With cable?

We just had an alarm 830 Z Axis Serial Data Communication Fault alarm on our VF2ss. The fix after 2 weeks of the HFO service guy coming was a new data cable to he encoder/motor. I don't know how you can test the cable without a Hi-Pot test unit, but you could also try swapping out the cable from a different machine if available instead of wasting money.

If you found oil inside the encoder, then it is most likely bad.

I going to change encoder, but, interesting, generally it works OK, alarm appears when I turned spindle by hand in one direction, and then in opposite direction((
