is it ok to mount a leadscrew to a bearing without machining?

I was wondering if it was ok to mount leadscrew inside of bearings without machining the ends.
also to prevent back and forth motion of leadscrew... do you ususally do this with shasft collars?

    thanks for the help!

Whether it's OK or not depends on who you ask.
But plenty of people have done it, and yes, they use shaft collars.
