    Reduce max speed, increase torque?

Is it possible that decreasing the max speed of a spindle trough VFD and increase the torque at lower speeds?

My point is if I can use a 2.2kw chinese spindle as lathe spindle but the max speed I need is 2k RPM so I need to know if VFD drives are capable to play with speed/torque then the idea might be useful. So that there will not be any gearing needed.

The exact VFD I have is Huanyang 2.2kw.

    Thanks in advance.

A brushed DC motor is at max torque at 0 rpm.
All other motors whether inductive or brushless, depend on slip or rotation speed to gain inertia to develop torque.
Pulleys and belts or gears give you mechanical advantage.
Its just the way it is.

Re: Reduce max speed, increase torque?

    Hi,

I already upgraded my lathe to DC brushed motor with a KB drive for variable speed and it works good.

But, 2.2kw air cooled spindles are very cheap these days so I thought I better try my luck.

    Thanks.
