    Offset crc error

Our company has a 93VF0 displaying "offset crc error".

The machine only boots tot he point of Displaying "Haas", "v4.28e", what looks like a date code, and the error message.

Haas and our local service provider says that if the machine would boot all the way that error means low battery, but since it won't boot that our software is corrupted. They refuse to provide or even sell just the software. We tried getting the chips themselves or the binary files so we could flash our own chips.

Both companies insist that the only way to fix the problem is by replacing the whole board at a cost of $1800.

Has anyone encountered this problem or a problem similar and/or does anyone know of a way to reinstall the software besides re-flashing the chips?

    Battery replacement

They should replace the battery ... there is a connection above the old battery where you temporarily plug in the back up while you solder in a new one. Your machine is a bit old. Replacing the board and getting the software upgrade with it might be worth it though.

The battery is fine at 3.3v. If it was just a battery problem we would have lost the parameter data. The machine won't turn on past the screen displaying Haas and the software version number. The keypad beeps when you press a button, but nothing happens and after so many key presses the beep changes to a long beep.

Check your low voltage power supply. Make sure you have +12, -12, and +5 at the processor. That could cause issues.

    HAASTech83:

Provide some tolerance values. My guess is +/- .2 V on the +5, and maybe
+/- .5 on the 12 V supplies. What are the HAAS specifications?

Anyone doing this needs a good voltmeter.

Also check for AC ripple. My suggestion here is maybe 5 to 10 millivolts, but I have not checked a HAAS power supply.

Checking two computers with a Fluke 27 --- results are:
    Code:
V DC MV AC V DC MV AC

      15 to 20 yr old 5.09 29 11.83 12
    HP 5 to 10 yr old 5.15 9 11.78 15

+12 (12 to 12.6) Depends on how many amps hooked up.
    -12 (-11.8 to -12.0)
    +5 (4.8 to 5.0)

Most of the time you will see about half voltage on everything aka +6, -6, +2.5 when you see processor, mocon issues.

The machine can run at lower but i always want to see the voltage on the higher end of my ranges.
