Take raw stock and cut it into something.
Well, there are other things too, may the learning never stop.
Actually the base knowledge was reading, first grade.
    Been doing this too long

I'm 44, working as a so-called "tool&die" maker at GM for 24 long years. Thank god I had the brains to set up a machine shop at home or else I would have no skills at all ! Almost everything I've learned was self taught because I had the drive to do so. Looking to lose my job in the next year or so, so that's why I'm here to try and educate myself on CNC.

    To answer your question, NO.
I am retired and still learning. When you quit learning, you die.

I'm old as the hills, but young as the day. I'm nowhere NEAR as schmart as I WANT to be though. This forum helps me keep getting schmarter.

Hell, I'm 31 and the first machine I ever operated at a paying job was a Bridgeport CNC with the punch tape. I remember my supervisor having to use something that looked like a typewriter to modify the program and had to punch out another tape every time...

I have one of those machines and it still runs as good as new! Do you have the windows version of the software it uses or is it the dos version?

45 years young... for one as young as I to have this much grey mean either I'm wise beyond my years... or I've been under too much stress!

This is so true. I am nearing the end of transferring my company to the next generation and it has taken years of 'downloading' my brain onto paper or computer files; everytime something crops up that needs my input it is documented as far as possible for future reference.
