    diy power supply

Has any one used a transformer from a microwave, cut out the high voltage wires and rewound it with some 14ga or 16ga.wire and put a ful-wave bridge rectifier on it with some caps on it and built there power supply for there cnc stepper motor drivers.my 24 volt.power supply died.Just got this used with some small steppers, and a small cnc engraver,so now i need a power supply.I have an old microwave that i removed the door switches and used them for my home switches on this,so i have a transformer to use...thinking about 30 volts at about 10-15 amps would be enough.

Yes, you can build your own power supply for stepper motors. I built one for a cnc conversion a few years ago. It might be easier to check someplace like ebay for a suitable transformer rather than trying to wind your own, but if you feel comfortable doing this, then by all means build your own. Find (or make) a transformer with the right output voltage, use a full wave bridge to get your DC and a suitable capacitor to smooth things out.
