    RAPIDTURN VIDEOS

    Hi Guys.

Rapidturn has even made it to the far flung shores of New Zealand !

I thought a thread of videos and photos and Rapidturn related information would be useful.

I start the ball rolling with an unpacking and inspection video - more to follow.

Please post any videos you can to this thread.

    Cheers Keen

This will be nice! I see so little real life use of this tool.
Thanks keen! I know it takes time and effort to make the videos.

I don't recall if I posted this or not:

Threading is 20 tpi at 600 rpm. The actual threading starts at about 2:00 in the video.

    Looks good.

I recommend you put a small chamfer on the end of your part before you start threading.

Yes. I would always do so on a manual lathe but I was anxious to play with my new toy!

Sweet. Will the RT work as a continual 4th axis? Looked like it can index.

The RT motor is powered by the spindle VFD. I suppose that you could add another VFD without program control but that is certainly not the intended mode of operation. Indexing is with manually selected detents.

yeah, I was guessing that was a "cool look how easy this is" kind of part.

Yikes! 7.5 Richter scale earthquake last night.

I think my one can be renamed RapidShake.

No major damage - just stuff fallen over or on the floor as far as my sleep deprived brain can see.

    Re: RAPIDTURN VIDEOS

Attaching a tool platform using the spindle bolts together with bolts at the back of the head looks like a great plan to get better rigidity and more room for additional tools. Adding two tapered dowel pins should allow a readily re-installed setup with reasonably precise offsets. It is much nicer than my approach of using two split rings around the spindle housing. I'm eagerly looking forward to following your progress!

The PathPilot interface only appears to support two-axis offsets and you need three-axis offsets to employ gang tooling. Have you any thoughts that you are willing to share regarding configuring offsets for gang tooling?

Yes I have checked that out prior to starting - no major problems there. - I hope to cover that subject in a video soon.
