Re: Dmm Dyn4 pmdx126 ess control build

Thanks Dan, that helps. Can you tell me if you used the PMDX126 dedicated e-stop relay in your system (relay K2 I think)? Or did you skip that relay entirely and configure mach(3/4) to use a different logic level pinout? If you are wondering why I ask it is because I originally assumed I was going to wire things up like this: (image sourced from the PMDX-126 app notes).

In the above image it appears that the contactor coil must match the AC voltage sent to the PMDX... From my point of view the only way to use both a 120V contactor coil and the built in estop relay would be to power both the pmdx board and the contactor from the same 120V branch. I could be wrong about this of course.

I did end up getting the PMDX126/ESS to run the sytem... I'll be testing all of this in a few weeks.

    Again thanks for the info,

    Todd

Re: Dmm Dyn4 pmdx126 ess control build

All I used was the j13 connections gnd and estop which I think preconfigured is port 1 pin 10 in software. But you could use that diagram I did not because I wanted all exterior power to be 24vdc for safety. I powered all components with 240v that would take it. pmdx board, both power supplies, drives.
Sorry forgot what I did. I did use pmdx k2 relay but ran 24vdc acrossed it to control my relay that has the 120v running through it.
I would have preferred to just get 24vdc coils on the contactors but that was after I decided to use lower voltage.

LTDan, what size contactor and circuit breaker would you recommend for 3 750w drives on 120v?

These are 240V drives, not 120V.

    • According to the website they are
    • Single/Three-Phase 110~240VAC ± 10% 50/60Hz input

That is correct for the Dyna4 Drives

So they can be run from 120V single phase?

Not sure for 120v. I had wired mine direct and measured the draw then added 10% and used a D curve which allows a 10 times spike for the rectifier and capacitors to charge.

Ok. When you measured your draw were you running the servo on the machine, or just sitting at idle?

I locked the shaft with an old pulley and a big pipe wrench lol don't try this unless your certain you can hold it. I saw 7.4 amp on 248v then the drive errored. I am using 32amp breaker on 240v for 3 750w drives.
Fyi I used the dmm drive software to command the motor in test movement mode. You can just do the math and get your answer.
It is probably gonna be close to double.

Re: Dmm Dyn4 pmdx126 ess control build

What macro are you using, and what is the problem?
    Do you have an ATC?

The default M6Start is not really an ATC macro. If you have an ATC, you'll need to write your own macro, or find one similar to what you need, and modify it to make it work.

Well if I run this on a machine at work (Fanuc Control it works)
But cant seem to get it to run with the ess without the ess it works.

Do I need to use the the macro numbers for the ess like M106 for output 6?

Do you have Output 5 enabled and configured? It looks like that's the only output this macro is using.

When you say "Can't get it to run", what is it doing?

    sorry for x2 post
If I start Mach3 and choose no device or just parr port it runs but when I load ess plugin it does not.

Ger I figured it out Im sorry to waste your time. I had a conflict with soft limits and G53
