With a small basement workshop, I don't have space for single purpose tools. The surface plate that Tormach supplies for measuring TTS tool length is a single purpose tool, and one that does not work well with most height gauges. I had considered drilling a larger inspection plate for some time but was always hesitant out of concern the surface plate may crack. Turns out, if pursued carefully and slowly, and with the proper tools, drilling a surface plate is straight forward. The result is a larger surface plate, that fully supports a height gauge, and consolidates tools. I made a video to describe the thinking and process and use. Best wishes, Kent
