    Re: Machining time estimation

One of the first jobs I ever had in CNC was to do time estimating for a Swedish company that imported lathes to the US.
Before the potential customers even looked at our machine, we had to tell them how long it would take to machine the part.
I actually went to Sweden for training, that was really nice.
    Here is what I learned:
Figure the RPM for each cut, also the feedrate in Inches per minute.
Figure the time for each cut by dividing length of cut by IPM., also the time to rapid from cut to cut.
Add loading time, finish cut time.
Proof that it worked: I had to go and train the shops and actually proove that my time was correct.
There is a lot of this on my CNC DVD called "Prep for CNC'

It would surprise me if there is no run time estimation function inside alphacam!?

Of course - There is the "Reports" - but also the "Quick-editor", where basic information's can be seen (if You put in Feed, that the Machine is capable of reaching)

There is an add on - advanced tool path editor - which when enabled shows timings for each operation. Once enabled it can be found under the machine tab > edit machining. At the bottom of the drop down menu. Bare in mind these timings are only linear timings and do not take into account tool changes, rapids, acceleration/deceleration and such.

    Re: Machining time estimation

Where can I find the add on that jegero mentioned in his post? I am trying to determine how much of the total cutting time is with the saw and how much is the jet. I am new to this industry so I may be missing something simple but all I seem to be able to get is totals where the saw and jet are combined.

    thanks
