    2.2KW VFD + UC100+ G540 - Permanent Solution to EMI problem

    Dear All,
I recently purchased 2.2KW VFD with Aircooled spindle from China. I also Purchased USB to RS485 connector so that i able to use Mach3 plugin created by
Mach3 plugin for Huanyang VFD | Le royaume d'éole

I was unable to run the Mach3 due to high noise problem created by cheap VFD. I resolved the issues by adding Ferrite Bead on UC100 USB cable as well as RS485 USB cable to VFD and i am having no issues running the system without any interruption or UC100 sync error.
Just for info.. You can salvage Ferrite beads from any cable around you and installed at both ends of cables (Total 4 will be required)

Is there any possibilities that motors not move due to noise?

In my case when spindle was ON and i was able to move all three axes by jogging... But as soon i press CYCLE START to run GCODE the spindle started and i got UC100SYNC error and Mach3 stop responding.. I added these Ferite beads to both UC100 as well as USB to RS485 cables and i didn't get any sorta UC100 SYNC ERROR after that..ran the Gcode for 30minutes air cutting all went well...
I dont think Stepper motors prone to noise however I2C, USB connections that send /receive data to/from computer are more prone to Noise EMI...

Have you confirmed the ground connection is present on the motor connector?, many come with the pin present but the no ground on the pin inside the motor.
Also have you adequate grounding present from service to VFD to motor?
I have had not problem with RS485 to VFD using the same plugin.

Al... I opened the connector to verify the connection.. The earth cable was internally connected with the spindle body... I am not using the shielded cable from VFD to motor... The cable from RS485 to VFD has no common ground with computer i mean only two connections (RS+ and RS-)...The USB cable i was using from computer to UC100 was also without ferrite beads... In my case, just adding the Ferrite beads resolved the issue....

Also twisted RS485 cable with shield is an asset in noisy conditions.

The cable that comes with the UC100 is garbage and they shouldn't even supply it with purchase, or charge a few bucs more and send it with a sheilded 1.
I had my HY VFD set up with 485 adapter/plugin with parallel port running flawless until upgrading to UC100 and had nothing but noise problems that never existed before. I replaced the supplied UC100 cable with a shielded 1 and all problems went away. Now very happy with it.

I purchased mine in Micro center, if you need a link LMK.,

Yes, my cable from 485 adapter to VFD is shielded and should be.

In my case shielded cable was not available so i just salvage a ferrite bead from a redundant cable and used it... Worked like a charm :P

    Hey Kahlid,

I've just written a plugin for the HY VFD and UCCNC, I been testing it hard all week and it's working great. If your interested in giving it a try PM me an Email address and I'll send.

Is it just for Mach 3 or 4?

    Hi Dan,
Thanks for the offer but the existing Plugin work great with Mach3 giving me real time and accurate spindle RPM ... EMI will result in disconnecting of USB connection whether you use Mach3 or UCCNC... I never shifted to UCCNC because of fear and feel myself much more relaxed with Mach3...
You can post the link of your plugin here if anyone can try and tell you. Thanks again

Neither, its for the UCCNC control software.

I've been using the Matty Zee plugin for the HY vfd and Mach3 for a couple of years now, along with the 2010 screen set and I was very happy with this set up. Once I started working with 3D models and generating some large G code files I started to experience the large file bug within Mach3 that will never be fixed, so I started looking into other controller software.

I certainly intend to post a link for this plugin in the UCCNC section forum, I been testing all week with it and working great. I just need to finish the configure window portion. I originally intended to add RPM but after monitoring the Matty Zee plugin I seen it was just using the frequency x 6 for RPM and seemed like a waste of time. I'm going to take a look at the Le royaume plugin and see what he does different.

Good luck with the UC100, I been using problem free for a few months now.

    Hi Khalid,

I just came across this thread in a search for other info so thought I'd update my findings. I did look into the Le royaume plugin for Mach3 and concluded it isn't possible to have real time RPM with that plugin or any other. The Huanyang VFD is just outputting the frequency its running, than using PD144 to calculate to RPM. " What's your RPM at 50HZ? " If cutting something under load and actually slowed the spindle/motor head down it will never show in the RPM.
