    STupid newbie question.....

Is it possible to use heavy duty 'pantry' slides for axis movement. They are rated for up to 250lbs. and have 22+ inches of travel.

If you are refering to drawer slides, then yes, it is posible. They have some drawbacks tho...Dust getting in and slop are a couple.

You titled your thread "Stupid newbie question"

There is no such thing as a stupid question.
Your question shows you are thinking.

If you are looking at an alternative to linear bearings you may want to consider skate bearings that run on gas pipe.
Or V bearings, they look like normal bearings but they have a V cut in the middle of them. They can run on upturned angle iron, or special hardened steel track. This is a much cheaper option than conventional linear bearings.

There is lots of postings in this forum about these alternatives.
