Think I need a better placed RED Button

Crashed my cutter at max rpm & rapid with a 3/8” cutter.

Using SprutCAM I managed to do this having run a simulation & doing a sanity check on the machine before letting it rip. There were 2 operations using the same tool so the first op ran as expected then the second one asked to change the tool. I thought that was weird & ignored it. Big mistake & I could not find the RED button fast enough.

In review I found the second op had another tool specified than what I expected. It just happened that this tool allowed the simulation to complete successfully. So I should have not ignored the tool change. I totally attribute this to complacency. So what went through my head. I thought since I just updated SprutCAM maybe something changed, then I glanced at the screen but decided I didn’t have time to analyze it so I hit cycle start. The cut started out OK but then went too deep. Now I’m thinking something is wrong better get it stopped so I hit the jog shuttle (don’t ask me why) then the keyboard, and finally, oh yeah the emergency stop way up there on the electrical cabinet.

So I’ve decided I need a big RED button on the front of the machine where you can’t miss it. Next I need a better check list to deal with complacency. Also, I’ll be mounting that cutter somewhere handy as reminder.

Looks like I’m out a cutter, collet and my part will be a little shorter than planned!

They do say the E-stop is always the hardest button to find on a panel.

I use the space bar as it will stop the machine but not lose the reference of the machine.

I bought the slider conversion to knobs box from Adapted CNC, I have used it just this past week and believe me its nice using Max Velocity, to be able to watch the cutter ease into the part!

Murphys law will bite you when you least expect it........several broken cutters here to attest to that!

edit: this is the thread on the knob replacement box for the sliders.
