Crashed my cutter at max rpm & rapid with a 3/8” cutter.
Using SprutCAM I managed to do this having run a simulation & doing a sanity check on the machine before letting it rip. There were 2 operations using the same tool so the first op ran as expected then the second one asked to change the tool. I thought that was weird & ignored it. Big mistake & I could not find the RED button fast enough.
In review I found the second op had another tool specified than what I expected. It just happened that this tool allowed the simulation to complete successfully. So I should have not ignored the tool change. I totally attribute this to complacency. So what went through my head. I thought since I just updated SprutCAM maybe something changed, then I glanced at the screen but decided I didn’t have time to analyze it so I hit cycle start. The cut started out OK but then went too deep. Now I’m thinking something is wrong better get it stopped so I hit the jog shuttle (don’t ask me why) then the keyboard, and finally, oh yeah the emergency stop way up there on the electrical cabinet.
So I’ve decided I need a big RED button on the front of the machine where you can’t miss it. Next I need a better check list to deal with complacency. Also, I’ll be mounting that cutter somewhere handy as reminder.
Looks like I’m out a cutter, collet and my part will be a little shorter than planned!
