Fanuc equipped CNC knee mill retrofit with Centroid Allin1DC

Marty and Dan shot this video of Dan's Comet CNC knee mill retorfit upgrade from a Fanuc to Allin1dc cnc control.
Lots of good commentary. Check it out.

Re: Fanuc equipped CNC knee mill retrofit with Centroid Allin1DC

Hi Keith, I'm contemplating a used lathe with a fanuc control that has failed. the drives and servos checked out fine but fanuc recommended a control replacement. I noticed that the fanuc kits you show on the ajax website use the MPU11/GPIO4D and this uses the allin1dc. what are the advantages of one over the other? another question I have is for the spindle. this particular lathe uses a fanuc servo for the spindle as well. can the allin1dc drive the fanuc spindle, or would it need another servo drive?

    thanks
    Jim

Jim, in a nut shell. the allin1dc is for DC axis motors that requires less than 15 amps cont. the ac/dc drives come in 30 and 60 amp flavors and run both ac brushless and dc brush motor for the large sizes.

ok, so the allin1dc will drive small DC servos directly, but larger DC or AC servos require a separate drive? your controls can't communicate with fanuc drives, so you have your own drives to fill that spot?

yes.. you can command some fanuc spindle drives that accepts 0-10 vdc analog input. the axis drives we don't recommend reusing unless you are a fanuc expert.

if the spindle drive doesn't use 0-10 volt, is it simply a matter of swapping out for one of your drives? the fanuc spindle drive says 283-325 volt input.

0-10 vdc is the signal command voltage not the primary power input. this manual may help shed some light http://www.centroidcnc.com/downloads...fit_Manual.pdf

thanks for the clarification. now I just need to find the specs on this fanuc spindle drive and confirm it uses 0 to 10 volt. it sounds like otherwise your control package would be ideal for this lathe.
