Ideas on how to run high pressure coolant to live tooling

    Hello,
I have a job we recently received. The material is brass .
I've attached a drawing to explain. There is a .316 dia. hole in which we ream. My problem is that the only way to ream this and hold the tolerance is to get as much high pressure on the reamer as possible.
Running this on a Citizen L20. I've also attached a pic of the live tooling holder we're using. Was wandering what others thoughts were on the best way to get high pressure on the reamer.

I think the only thing you can really do is run a stailess steel hard line with is nozzle insert in it to get a good spray pattern.

I guess you dont have coolant through the subspindle. You could drill on main and ream on sub.

I'm with jreynolds on this one. a loooong brake line plumbed near the tool tip is likely your best bet. I cant see many other ways to get coolant in line with the tool.

Does the reamer have to be live? Can it be static? If so Graf makes a nice coolant thru static holder. They are distributed by ph horn

    reamed hole is off-center

Thanks for the suggestions. I came up with something that's working really good. The funny thing about this job is the part length and the working length of the rotary tools. I ended up having to set the length of each tool .005 off the face of the guide bushing.

Just a couple of things I see. If you have live tools on the sub side back working block, I would be doing that 0.316 hole on the sub. It would save time, and eliminate the problem of chips packing at the bottom of the hole. Also, from the pictures, it looks like you are using a HSS reamer. While that may work for a while, I would be using a solid carbide reamer. Costs more, for sure, but will last many times longer, especially in brass. The HSS reamer can be a big part of holding tolerance.

    Good luck!

i actually have a recool in production now, we are running a 3/16 15xD drill in 316ss with a double ended live holder in our new tsugami the hardest part was figuring out the plumbing but rego was very helpfulwith that also. if you call them they will definetly help you get what you need
