Unhappy Anybody toubleshoot there Powermax 1000?

    Hello all

Something stange hapened today, went out to the shop to do some cutting but my machine torch wont fire. Has been working flawlesly for a couple of years so is not related to some sort of set up issue.

Anyways I pluged in the hand torch I have, it fires when the trigers pulled but not when comanded by the CNC. I have a seperate start switch that plugs into the machine interface and it wont cause the torch to fire either.

So dowloaded the Hypertherm service manual and did there plasma start test #8
( involves putting a jumper across the red & white on the machine interface , J19 ), and what do you know the machine torch fires.

Man this confuses me, I'm taking the machine into the dealer on Monday but thought I'd see if anyone out there has had this happen.

Troubleshoot this separate wiring & the plug on it & the plasma machine for breaks or discontinuity etc.

If that is OK disconnect the wires for the separate start at the CNC & jump those 2 together. If this fires the torch, it is likely that your CNC controls are not sending the start signal. Perhaps a bad relay.

Well I 've got a proper diagnosis now.

Seems the plasma cutters fine. I've narrowed the problem to the CNC control not closing the start circuit to activate the torch.

Thanks Weldtutor for helping me with this one.

What got me mixed up is I presumed my start switch had to work, worked before last time I used it. Discovered a wire had come unconected from the plug.

    That will do it.

Thanks for the report & glad you found the problem.

You should be able to make fire now. (flame2)
