    Dust Collection

    Hey guys,

We use a 4860 for primarily processing aluminum and are looking for a dust collection system. I have set up systems on jet and grizzly collectors in the past for wood and plastic but have no idea how this style of system will work with aluminum. The included dust collection head doesnt even apear to work with the tool changer and will most certainly crash on the parts we work on, so a more compact head will also be neccesary. I am thinking a cyclone seperator in conjuction with a standard wood chip collection system will probably work but am not sure if the alluminum will cause catastrophic failure. Any input would be greatly apreciated.

Join in here and maybe you will get more input. I re-did my machine to have top loading tools and made my own smaller skirt. Aluminum should be a touch heavier than sawdust, so I don't see why a cyclone would not work. It may take more horsepower than what would be suggested for wood.

Aluminum is usually cut wet, with flood coolant or at least a little mist. This makes dust collection ineffective, even for the smaller particles. To pick it up, you need something more serious than the average shop-vac - something more like this: http://www.tiger-vac.com/index.php/r...uirements.html
