    Read Failed auto disconnect problem

    Hey Tom,

I get occasional Read Failed auto disconnect errors. Not too bad, maybe couple times a week. I blamed it on old computer but ive setup a second machine now with better computer and its doing same thing too.

Did some searching and seems to be from noise on the USB cable? Im using a double sheilded cable from mcmaster. https://www.mcmaster.com/4974t16/ . Is there any where i can buy a cable with even better shielding? What about isolators? Is that worth a try? What one do you reccomend? Thanks.

    Mark

    1. investigation to find a root of he problem.
    2. check equipotential of earthing at both ends. Or, arrange the equipotential with good quality copper wire.
    3. galvanic insulation - universtal solution.

    Hi Mark,

You might read through this for isolators and such.

You might check the cable shielding by measuring the resistance from shell to shell which should be less than 0.6 ohms. We find many cables don't meet this specification. Ironically bending and twisting the cable sometimes reduces the resistance.

Also ferrite cores on both ends may help. Such as this.

You might also determine if it is actually a USB communication error or if it is a KFLOP Reset caused by power supply issues or grounding. If it is a Reset then the Configuration in KFLOP will be Reset otherwise it will be retained.

    2. I just checked voltage between computer and Kflop and i get 0.000 VDC and 0.018 VAC. Also checked the resistance of USB cable, its about 1 ohm.

    3. You mean isolation? How do i achieve this? I am using an isolated 5v power supply for kflop.

Just thought i would post an update. We purchased a cheap usb isolator on amazon and it seems to be helping for sure. I dont think we have had a single disconnect since.
