    Foundations for 8.5ton Bed Mill

    Hi,

Company I work for recently got a new CNC Milling machine, Id rather not say the make and model of the machine currently however when we side cut with it the machine such as slotting the machine vibrates like nothing normal, suppler has done test cuts on same material, with same tooling and cutting data and does not get the noise. They are speculating its the controller needs fine tuned ete for the servos.

However I have got to thinking may be foundations or the electrical supply could cause either of these issues, I know that a previous test showed our power to have a imbalance of 20 volts on one of the phases and as for the foundations Im told they are 8" and no more information.

The noise is a high pitch squeal

Any idea from the forum would be appreciated

It's not electronic imbalance causing this. 20 volts is not going to cause a disturbace in the cut. Can the noise be seen in the surface finish of the cut? If it can, then the splindle bearing preload or axis gib adjustment could be the cause. That's assuming it has Gibs vs Linear bearings, but without make and model I don't know.

If the noise cannot be seen in the resulting surface finish, then it could be spindle drive settings. Plenty of splindle drives operate at high frequency and make a terrible obnoxious noise, but this noise should not affect the cut.
