Here is some pics and vids of the machine i've been building for the last year or so.
Basic run down,
Y-Axis dual 2005 ballscrew 8NM (1200oz) drives per side. 1360MM usable area
X-Axis SIngle 2005 Ballscrew 20nm (2800oz) drive (overkill i know but i had it left over. 1360mm movement
Z Axis 2505 ballscrew single 8NM direct drive. 205mm movement
Ethernet MOtion card by XHC (once you work out there bugs its pretty good actually)
Hanyung VFD communicating via rs485
A simple 12V automotive Advantech PC, also works surprisingly well
Optical homing switches
Z Y and A Z axis all using closed loop. X will be upgraded as funds permit.


The bed itself will be 1350X 1040Y with a vertical bolting able to use the remaining 320mm in.
Spindle for now is a 2.2kw Chinese job, till i can afford a ATC spindle

So far all has been built backwards i build the gantry first and built the machine around that.
100% tig welded and very square, buet thing about the tig is you can consentrate the heat were you need to pull it be square.
Awaiting my table top 20mm ALuminium plate over 1700 holes on the top to be drilled and tapped.

Thanks Ward, yeah there dual coolant catchment/swarf trays there on a 15deg angle and will have auto flushing hopefully. I learnt from my old machine that Gravity is your friend with coolant!

Your welds may not be perfect, but you're not trying to hold an aircraft carrier together. Beautiful machine!

You mean you just have not seen any with this front mounting, there are lots of router builds that have front horizontal mounting, even some commercial machines have this feature

After seeing 80gus's CNC build it really inspired me to create something like it, I loved the strong ally design and the possible versatility of the table, Having very limited tools at hand, It took me around 6 months to build. I mostly used a Makita drop saw with a high tooth blade to create the larger pieces and lots of hand filing. I loved the front design so I can mount work pieces at a later date. I wanted the table to be flexible to work wood and aluminum and be used as a plasma table.

I'm in the process of welding up a removable water table up and a plasma torch holder for the Z axis, speaking of my Z axis, as you can tell from the pictures I thew it together with what I had, No plans lol, It works great but now that I have a working machine making, upgrading the Z axis will be done in due course, I sourced a little bit thicker ally C channel so it wouldn't flex. I'm in the process of buying a tooling plate for milling when funds allow but plasma cutting is my main concern atm.
You kind of need a CNC machine to make a good tight CNC machine :idea:I'm using an Stepcraft UC300ETH motion controller connected to an Ocean control's bob, which is hard wired to my laptop via Ethernet cable.

Thanks to 80gus for posting his build, Once I saw his build I couldn't get it out of my head.
