I was seriously thinking of getting one of these. I am surprised no one here has posted about it.

    brianbonedoc,

I think the one in your link is a Normally Closed Passive the Tormach ETS under specs says "Normally Open Sensing Logic" Manual Says both the Digitizing Probe & ETS are Active High = Open.

I cannot find the PDF i was reading have read a bunch, but I think Tormach Says Wire Their ETS on the accessory plug...

    Din ETS
    Pin 3 +12V
    Pin 4 0V
    Pin 5 Signal

The manual also says if you jumper pin 4 & 5 the accessory indicator in the software will activate to test port. So this is telling me it is Normally Open.

So the 66A Tool Setter is Normaly Open 10-24V Input.

Yeah my passive probe (renishaw mp3) is normally closed. It uses the same circuitry so the tool presenter would be the same NC I believe. I didn't look at the specs too much as there are a bunch pretty similar. I still think it's worth a shot. Why don't u be the guinea pig?

Ok, May be Worth Being a Gunea Pig... From the Path Pilot screen ETC Uses the same settings as the active probe.

Can't wait to see how this works out. Too bad pathpilot can't measure tools while in he middle of a program like mach3 could.

Tormach will work with either NO or NC. It has to be configured to one or the other, see the manual. Passive probe is NC, the more expensive one is NO. I believe their tool setter is NO.

I bought a second passive probe to use as a tool setter. Made a base with magnets to hold it to the table as well as a touch pad to replace the stylus.

Awesome. We're waiting to hear how it works. Here are some other (relatively) inexpensive ideas:

I already have a Wildhorse probe. It works far better than any $100 probe has a right to. With an hour of fighting with it I've been getting consistent results to within a few tenths. Which is fine for a Tormach. Sure, it may not remain accurate forever but it's $100. Also Keen's new ITTP should be available soon.

Second thing: The Wildhorse probes come with an optional kit that makes them a toolsetter and they already have the Tormach plug on them. Just plug and go. But the Chinese one you are getting is a little more purpose built sensible design and shape for a toolsetter.

Third: Your post reminded me of several products that Millfast makes that let you keep your probe and toolsetter plugged in at the same time. $100 probe, $100 toosetter, $100 dual adapter = $300 for full probing of parts and tools hooked up full time.

That's less money than one manual Haimer probe. Interesting.

Here's the link to the Millfast adapters:

Advil, The China one is Active NC (Like the Tormach) not Passive NC like the others.

Can you give me some pointers on wiring it? I have the 6-wire NO version (sk-66a-kc) and I'm putting 24V across red/grey but the brown/orange circuit seems to be open and there is no LED regardless of the state of the ETS.
