    Question wire offset values

Hi all can anyone assist with a question about the wire offset values when setting up the eroder (fanuc tape cut model h).I'm pretty new to these machines and alot of knowledge and paperwork has been lost over the years,i need to know if there is some sort of chart or equation to work out the offset/compensation of the wire compared with the material and thickness

    Many thanks

What type of material are you cutting, how thick is the material, what is your wire diameter, and what is your wire material?

How many cuts are you making?

A good starting point for 1 rough cut and 2 skim cuts would most likely be
.008 offset as a 1st cut, .006 as a 2nd cut, and .0055 as a 3rd cut. Of course, you'll want to do some test cuts.

    BTW, that's using .010 wire

    Hope this helps

    Cheers Bertram

I am using 0.3 wire and material of various type and thickness i just wondered if there was some sort of rule of thumb for working out the parameters or is it just trial and error

    thanks

It's some trial and error. However, I would think that those offsets are a good place to start with that diameter wire. You're most likely going to have to do some test cuts, because your power supply I'm sure is different than mine.

It also depends on how many cuts you are making. If you are only making 2 cuts, then I might start with .0071 and .0055.
