Choosing a VFD for a CNC Jr

    Hi all

I need some help choosing a VFD for a CNC Jr please.

I know the one that was on it previously was a Leeson AC. It needs to take single phase 230v from the wall and convert it to 3 phase - not sure of the output voltage requirements.

The recommended replacement (by the previous owner) is a Lenze SMD 1.5Kw

What I'd like to know is; could I be using this opportunity to upgrade to a better VFD? What sort of features should I be looking for? What sort of VFD will be compatible with the existing control board, any?

I have a budget of around £200. I know that some features I would like would be for the spindle speed to be a) programmable (to take into account gearing), b) CAM controllable dynamically and c) able to compensate for slip. There are probably features you can recommend that I don't even know exist.

I don't know much about VFDs, for all I know most VFDs can do what I need them to but I have no idea. I would really appreciate some help.

    Thanks in advance

Take a look at AUTOMATION DIRECT in your product search and cost limits.

GS1 series might be in the direction of what you need or want. I have bought some of their products and was happy. Phoenix Contact is one of my favorites as far as interfacing and connectors go. A.D. does sell in the same area as them.

A.D. does have pretty good manuals, so it can help with your knowledge base at a minimum.
