Hi. recently bought cnc machine that came with desktop with alphacam installed. I want to install alphacam on a laptop so I can do drawings at home and ready them for next day. trouble is the dongle for the software is a 25pin serial port that will only run on xp. Any suggestions how I can work at home without using a huge desktop pc. I know you are thinking usb to serial cable but the previous owner says they won't work. Fingers crossed someone will come up with a solution. Steve

Try Keyspan they make all kinds of usb adapters and usb hubs that are cnc friendly.

I can duplicate the dongle(backup) ,,so you have a backup copy,,,if you need help please let me know,,,you can keep the physical dongle safe (under your mattress) and run the backup copy on your computers...

Not really sure, about legalities , but the data within the device is assembly/binary data- I took assembly language in the early 90's and as a project I recreated (made a backup copy) of a rainbow device.
