    Cutting steel vs brass

Someone here that can share their 'hands on' experience regarding cutting sheet metal, steel vs brass? will have access to a CNC router in a month or so ('CNC-Step', 1050w Suhner motor), so just planning ahead) To make some parts of sheetmetal, it can be carbon steel or brass. Like 0.5 to 1.5mm thickness mainly. I know about the theory, cutting speed tables and so on, but in the practical world is it so much less troublesome and quicker to cut brass vs steel, that it's worth the x5 (or whatever) cost of brass?)

    Re: Cutting steel vs brass

On my opinion cutting / engraving brass is a walk in the park, cutting steel is basically like brass but with a lower speed (Easy Breezy), but cutting / engraving "stainless steel" is the hardest, it creates heat in seconds without lubrication, so you need to watch carefully on the tool bit and the material itself until the work is done....it`s like watching a most awful soap show on TV, you cant speed up because it`s going to heat-up and turn red, the moment it turns red it tempers the bit used then it gets dull, delaying the work more because you need to pause and re sharpen the tool bit every time it goes dull in the middle of the program, not to mention the very sharp stainless steel shrapnel created during cutting. now that`s a PAIN IN THE ASS........
