USB Breakout board with LinuxCNC ??

    Hello,

I'm not current on this topic. Is there a breakout board which uses the USB cable only for the motion data out there? We've had a computer go down and getting one with a printer port is possible, but desirable?? no

Also if I have to use the USB in the computer do those adapter cables work for USB in the computer to the DB25 in our current breakout board?

    Thanks,
    Nelson

No, other than some experimental branches, as far as I know LinuxCNC does not support any USB motion cards.
This is because LinuxCNC runs in real time and all motion control is done in the host PC not the motion card.
Reliable real time access to USB hardware is quite difficult...

LinuxCNC does support Ethernet (and EtherCAT) connected motion cards however.

If you are just repairing a system with a failed PC that has a parallel port interface to your hardware
Is probably easiest to stay with parallel port hardware, since that will need the fewest configuration changes

    Thanks a lot.

Are there serial RS232 breakouts out there, and does LinuxCNC talk to them?

LinuxCNC can use Modbus (for I/O and VFD control) but not for realtime coordinated motion
Though Modbus is most commonly RS-485 not RS-232

There is realtime LinuxCNC compatible hardware for Parallel, Ethernet, EtherCAT, PCI, PCIE. and SPI but not USB
