    Flycutting Aluminum

    Hello,
I am attempting to use a flycutter to face aluminum. I purchased this set of flycutters and would like to use the largest one, 1 3/8" diameter. I will be facing cast aluminum and 3003 aluminum with a Tormach 770. Are the lathe tools pictured on the product page ground to the correct shape for my application? Also, could someone recommend some feeds, speeds, and DOC?
    Thanks

    Re: Flycutting Aluminum

It should work OK. You will need to round the cutting edge to get a good finish.
I (strongly) recommend you start with very shallow cuts and limited RPM. Feed is not so much of a problem.
Say 1000 rpm, 100 mm/min, and a cut of 0.05 mm depth. With this you will soon find out the limits of your machine - and how much it flexes.

    Cheers
    Roger
