    Gecko g540 Y-axis causing fault

I have gecko g540 tha I am using on a harbor freight x2.

This morning when I started it up the y-axis would not work.

The stepper motor also did not warm up like the other motors. I have checked to make sure it is not the wiring by switching the y axis plug to the x-axis and it worked fine.

I also noted that the g540 case directly behind the y-axis plug was very hot.

After reading a post on cnc-zone I opened the g540 case and I switched the a-axis g250x3 into the y-axis location.

Can the g540 run ok with only 3 drives in it?

Sure; if you're not using the A axis for anything else, you can just change the pin-out and swap it for Y. The Gecko won't care if a channel isn't being used. But you might order another G-250 drive, so you'll have a spare if this happens again.
