    5 axis head bearings

    Hello,

i have just completed a linear 3 axis portal milling machine and am now designing the rotary b and c axis. (head design)
However i have problems to figure out or too find which bearings i need for this application.
So far i could come to the conclusion that i would need crossed roller bearings. Those seem pretty expensive and not that common available in any shape and size.
So i ask myself if there are any other solutions that i could choose from. Surely there has to be some or not?
I would be glad if anybody could help me a bit out.
I know that i need some gearings in advance.....
My point is what bearings do i need?
I dont want to mill steel or metal.... just styrofoams and wood.

    Greetings

    Re: 5 axis head bearings

Crossed roller bearings (CERBs) would be the ideal solution. Yes, they are $$, but so is any 5-axis machine.
The next best solution would be double angular contact bearings (ACB), shimmed to the correct preload. More engineering, for slightly less $$ outlay.

The brand of the bearings does not matter as long as they are good ones. But then, I am not sure you can buy Chinese CRBs. (You can get Taiwanese ones from Hiwin ... not actually Chinese.)

    Cheers
    Roger
