Distilled water and good antifreeze. A lot of people use PC water cooling additives rather than antifreeze.

agree with Ger21, Distilled water, and about 20% car antifreeze. This ensure stuff does not grow in the water. The distilled water ensure there are no impurities in the water to start with like calcium that can accumulate over time and block the passages in the spindle.

I was thinking about a good antifreeze and "tap" water...I did not think of Distilled, thank you!

DO NOT USE Tap Water... It has far to many impurities.

Okay guys...have the distilled water & the Prestone antifreeze. What size of container do I need? I could really use dimensions if you can help.

I don't want too big that takes up all my storage space yet I don't know what is too small. Any suggestions?

It would depend how long you will be running the spindle it in an open system, start with a gallon in a closed system with a radiator and fan you can have as little as a quart

Nobody addressed the most important part corrosion the Aluminum spindle core, you have a double whammy because of the Stainless steel outer Aluminum and Stainless steel don't work well together in the unprotected state, so the Aluminum corrosion is the biggest problem, so you have to protect for this more than anything else

I'm facing the same challenge. What is the best way to prevent corrosion besides having all of the same material in the loop? Is there another additive or different coolant that can be used?

You need the same as what is used in the auto industry for aluminum engine heads / block protection
