Hello, I'm a new user to actual CNC forums.

I was looking for someone to spitball with on certain topics regarding laser cam software. I am currently using FG-CADCAM, but I haven't really been able to make much use of it because it seems like there isn't much help out there. I have no prior training on this software so I've just been using my knowledge on GibbsCam and AutoCAD to sort of give me a beginners edge.

If anyone out there has either heard of or knows of anyone who is experienced with the software; could you possibly point me in the right direction?
I am currently trying to utilize the 5-axis movements on my 4kw U44-SG Laser without using the teaching box (all of our measurements are in inches and the metric conversion can get a little annoying).

It's about time I give up hope because the only classes offered for this are in Chicago...

Yeah, but unfortunately I'm not really looking for a reseller. I'm just looking for someone who has experience with the software that I can ask a few questions about it. My boss spent a whole lot of money on it and flew an employee out for training in chicago for it, but that employee left the company a few months later and never taught anyone anything he knew about it (not that he knew much about it at all because I have been handwriting the programs this whole time where as he was supposed to be using the CAM software to write them).

It just seems like there's so few of these machines out there that can utilize FG-CAD/CAM that there aren't many people experienced with it and the people that are don't want to speak up.

Have you tried contacting the company to see if they will put you in contact with other users? Otherwise you are probably going to have a tough time of it unless your boss will spring for you to take the training.

WOAH perfect timing. I actually stopped checking this thread recently because I had abandoned all hope. I'd actually love the help.

Hopefully you using the fabrigear version of the software wont make things too different. I am really just lost in the setup of the machine and how to make the CAM output the posted program in the correct locations.

I may have messed up the parameters of the software along the way and I'm not sure how to fix that either.

we used a rs 232 port connected to the fabrigear and a little program to send it called wrpt. Is that what you mean? You want to send the nc file to the machine?
