Hi.

Newbie.

I cut a test square 400mm x 400mm (~15 3/4") and my diagonals are just under 1mm different from the calculated diagonal of 565.69mm ie 0.17% So the X and Y axes aren't perpendicular

I am prepared to have a go at making and adjustment to the X axis carriage, but the purpose of the post is to ask what sort of value I should be aiming at.

The above result seems unacceptable to me but I'm inexperienced.

What's the acceptable ball park level of accuracy?

On my opinion it should be perfect, should be 1=1, if it`s not perpendicular then I think you need to re align the machine itself, put washers or loosen bolts and hammer it with rubber mallet then tighten again, any method to make it perfect sir. usually CNC machines gets offsets or misaligned during shipping and handling (rough sea vibrations on the units itself) one of our machines got warped when they delivered it to the shop. a simple loosen tighten resolves the misalignment

What's the acceptable ball park level of accuracy?

That's a question that only you can answer.
For some projects, you may not even notice any error.
For other projects, out of square parts may be unusable.
