    Fanuc 10 System Error E

    Hi everyone!

I need some help with a vertical machining center (Mori Seiki MV Junior) which I recieved already defective from a friend.

If you apply power to the machine and push the green ON button, the CRT remains dark.

The 7 segment display on the master board of the Fanuc 10 control shows "E".

As I have already found out here:
    https://fanucrepairs.wordpress.com/2...rboard-alarms/
    This indicates a system error.

Im an electrical engineer, with acces to various diagnosis tools (Scope, Eprom-readers and programmers and so on)...

Has anyone a clue an where I should start the search?

Could it be, that the machine is damaged beyond repair?
The batteries are very old, and have probably not been changed regularly as inditacted, could this be a problem?
The Battery (AM1) reads 4.7V. Could not find the specified rating. Is this OK?

I hope anyone can suggest me some things to try other than "replace master board"...

    Greetings from Switzerland

you can take out additional PCBs one by one and observe what happens
take photos of electrical cabinet and master board

    Hi!

    Thanks for your answer.

If I take out the yellow PC Casette B
The error changes from E to J.

But im not sure, if this means that the casette is defective
Possible that the masterboard checks the error condition sequantially and breaks if one is true.. ?

J is normal in absence of PMC cassete
do you have input/output modules (big yellow boxes) in electric cabinet, and PT01A among them?
    PT01A looks like that

    OK Thanks for the Info.

No, there a no big yellow boxes.
See the picture from the cabinet inside.

I will take out the card on the left today and report, what that has done.

    Thanks.

Allriight, I checked what happens when I pull the cards out: Nothing.

If I take the left card out, the display still shows "E".
If I take both out, the display still shows "E".
If I take the right out, the display still shows "E".

I checked all the voltages on the testpoints. The all seem good to me.
Anything on the Master PCB I can check? For me, I dont see any blown out caps or similar defecive looking devices.

Does anone know, which conditions exactly can lead to e "E" Error?
I mean, somewhere on this TTL Logic mess, should be some signals which are checked, to see which error the display shall show..

    Thanks for any hints.

Re: Fanuc 10 System Error E

    Hi Guhl

    I tried both.

Screen remains dark and 7-segment display still shows E.

Seems that there is nothig running at all on the masterboard.

Pretty sure now, the error is on masterboard.

Any more ideas what I can check on the masterboard?
Are there clock frequencys, signals I can check?

    Thanks and greetings.

try to warm by blower (200C) or freeze by freezing aerosol big square Fanuc IC during power on
then warm or freeze portions of masterboard (be careful with electrolytic capacitors)

Re: Fanuc 10 System Error E

    Hi Again

Tried both, unfortunately with no success.

I have the masterboard with the plugged in PC Casette B now running with only the powersupply on my lab desk.
    Still shows error E.

When I take the PC Casette B out, it shows error F. When the masterboard was in the machine control cabinet, with alle plugs plugged in, it showed J, when the PC Casette B was not present.

    Interesting.

Clearly the test is only runned once, and then the result remains present, will the next power cycle.

I have the opinion, that the processors are running. They are getting warm, and I can measure both clock frequencys of 8 MHz and 16 MHz. The EN Signal from the powersupply is also present.

Im running out of things to check.. hmm

Re: Fanuc 10 System Error E

    Hi Guys!

Im still trying to get this solved.

I have tried two other Masterboards with various results. The boards had different EEPRO versions, but mostly showed the error E. I have a table with the different things I tried, if that helps.

Im now to the state, that my masterboard displays the letter "d", but stilld does not show any letters on the CRT.
Is this normal? I mean, why is there no display on the CRT?

The meaning of the error "d" is:
"Get when NMI error occurs continually. Either RAM parity or the Power off signal occurs. "

    What is NMI?

    Hope on any suggestions
    Thanks!

Re: Fanuc 10 System Error E

    Hi!

Just wanted to let you guys know, that the problem has finally been solved!

It was the Yellow PC Casette B, which caused the problem.

The board does apparently only check if the Casette is present and if not, shows letter J.
If the memory content of the casette is corrupted, the board shows E.

Please be also aware, that error E does not always mean, that the Masterboard is defective.

Re: Fanuc 10 System Error E

    Hello fellows!

My machine (Dainichi BX35 lathe) has similar symptoms. On CRT it only displays three lines: "FS10TF 1315K; ROM TEST :END; RAM TEST :" On masterboard error code "E" is shown. I was able to do only quick check that all connectors are plugged but nothing more. I just wonder if this Yellow PC cassette memory is corrupted, is there any way to recover? nordlichtFanuc, did you have a spare cassette or did you have an access to similar machine? As I guess memory content depends on machine.

Re: Fanuc 10 System Error E

    Hi!

    Sorry for the late reply.

I had acces to an other machine with the same setup.

Other than that, it is almost impossible to troubleshoot, as there is no real Documentation out there..

Did you find out what it was? At least you have a working CRT display with some text output. But strange, that there is nothing else displayed..
