    Inches and mm

    Hi everyone -

How do I set up my drawing to get inches an mm. when I use dimensions. My print needs to show both (do not ask me why).

    Anybody????

    Thank you

After you open a new drawing
Go to "tools" - "options" - "document properties"
turn on "dual dimensions" and make sure primary units are set to inches and secondary units are set to mm.

Pressing F1 = HELP (this is a very good and easy to use feature)

I would assume that you are using Solidworks since you posted this in the Solidworks forum. Go to the "Tools" menu and click "Options". A window will pop up (hopefully) Click on the 'Document Properties" tab and you should see it. It's the first option on that page under the heading "Dimensioning Standard"

    Metric-Inch defaults

I know how to change the unit dimensions in SW, but it's annoying to have to set it whenever I start a new part.

Is there a way to set up program defaults to user preferences?

    Thanks

Make a part template for metric parts instead of using whatever template you are currently using (I assume you are using the default SW template).

open a new part, change the document settings to whatever you wish ie. metric units. save it as a part template.

So, saving the part as a template will save the settings in that file as a user preference setting?

Don't actually make a part, just change the settings in the blank part document and save it as a part template.
I have all my templates saved on my server and have SW file locations point to that file. You can save your template in the default SW location if you wish.
I could type pages of instructions but it is all in the help file anyway.
    I hate typing...man
